Tips From a Liposuction Specialist

If you’re struggling with stubborn pockets of fat, you might be considering liposuction, or lipo. There are different types, so how do you choose which lipo procedure is right for you? Before making a decision, here is what the experts want you to know!

1. Have a Clear Understanding of How Each Liposuction Procedure Works

The goal with all liposuction is the same - getting rid of unwanted fat. The techniques, however, do differ. Traditional liposuction, mini-liposuction, and liposculpture all vary.

Traditional Liposuction

With the goal of removing larger amounts of fat and excess skin, traditional liposuction is the most complex of the procedures. It’s done under general anesthesia.

Incisions are made then a tube is inserted to release the fat, which is done with a back-and-forth motion. Once released, a vacuum is used to suction out the fat. Unless you’re having a significant amount of fat removed, you’ll likely go home the same day. Recovery happens in stages and can take around three months.

Mini Liposuction

Ideal for removing smaller amounts of fat and skin, mini lipo is done under local anesthesia. The procure works the same as traditional liposuction, except that a much thinner tube is used for suction. There is less bruising and swelling involved with this technique, and you won’t need as much time to recover. Healing can take up to 12 weeks.

LipoSculpture

Liposculpture begins with ultrasonic energy to break up unwanted fat. This technique allows for the safe removal of larger amounts of fat than traditional liposuction. You’ll experience less swelling and bruising with liposculpture. Most patients return to work the next day.

2. Let Your Liposuction Specialist Help You Choose Which Method is Best for You

During your consultation, your liposuction specialist will conduct a complete evaluation. This will include your medical history, a physical exam, and a discussion about your body goals. The best advice you can take is that of your specialist.
